The News of
Based On A True Story (12-15-2004)
That's right, I was actually asked this in a meeting with school officials. I wasn't asking for off-site lunch, but it was something just as irrelevant to the question. Heck, they also asked me if I was a pedophile. It's a good thing to be checking for that, but it was a very odd situation for the question, and it's not like I was wearing an "I heart pr0n" T-shirt or something. On the plus side, you got a new strip out of it.
Half-Life 2 Rocks (12-6-2004)
Today's strip (Sci-Fi Should Be Taken With A Grain of Salt) is based on my reaction in Half-Life 2 when I saw my first Combine "gunship". The screenshots in the strip are totally posed, you'd have a very hard time getting the gunship in that level into that position, especially without firing at you.
Wait! I'm Not Dead! (10-20-2004)
My whole point with not setting an update schedule was so that I could take long breaks guilt-free. There'll be frequent updates until this arc is done, unless Half-Life 2 comes out before November 16th or something else distracting happens. If I were able to make money off the site (either by advertising or PayPal) THEN I would set a schedule. Right now I'm doing this because of my love of writing for and drawing these characters. The Guru's up on the cast page, BTW.
I Can't Think of a Title For This Post (9-8-2004)
The reason there'z two strips is that the first strip (Like a Truck, BERSERKER) is a joke you will only get if you've picked up a particular powerup in Doom 3. The second one is more accessible.
25th Strip Anniversary (8-30-2004)
Whee, I've made it to 25 strips! 25 is a nice round number!
Those are actual screenshots from Max Payne in today's strip, BTW. If you've never played Max Payne, the text in the boxes in the first three frames is word-for-word what Max says in the intro. The FOURTH frame, however...
Sucking Down Some Bawls (8-29-2004)
Before you get all offended, Bawls is an unfortunately-named highly-caffeinated and expensive soda. It kept me awake all night during my party, without Mountain Dew's 12-hour-zombie-mode side effect the day after. The party went OK except for some metaphorical bumps in the road, but hey, it was good overall. I would've updated about the party yesterday (the party was during Friday night), but I was totally beat.
I'm not going to bore you people (all two or three of you who actually read the site regularly) with party details, especially since my friends were actually there.
If you don't think this strip is funny, you either don't get it or the strip isn't actually funny to you. You see, tabletop RPGs are by definition not electronic at all, unless you use character generators or dice rolling programs or the like, but those are optional. The dialogue in the strip (aside from the last frame, because I have self-control) is based on a therapy group I had where the therapist did this to try to relate to me with something she knew absolutely nothing about.
Therapy sucks.
Happy Over-12-Hour Birthday Party (8-27-2004)
Yesterday was my birthday. I received some nice gifts. Tonight, at 6:00, my three best friends will arrive and will not leave until 10:00 tomorrow. There will be over 12 hours of movies, video games, and Legacy Doom cooperative play. Just another of my annual all-nighter birthday parties, which I enjoy immensely.
By the way, you have probably noticed the new strip. (If you haven't, get your f-cking eyes checked!) It's the start of a plotline that makes fun of group therapy. Most of the jokes are slight exaggerations of the kind of bullsh-t I go through at school (DAMN YOU, THERAPY-FOCUSED ENVIRONMENT!), and one of them isn't an exaggeration at all, though I am sure you'll think it is when you read it. You may also notice the unusual fifth and sixth frames. They were needed to complete the punchline without it seeming rushed. I encourage you to wish me a happy birthday via email. My email address is listed at the bottom of the page if the link in the "via email" words doesn't work for you.
One more thing: The Spider-Man 2 game for Playstation 2 is excellent (and presumably the Xbox and Gamecube versions are, as well). Have a nice day.
Escaping From the Clutches of Digital Entertainment (8-24-2004)
I've barely managed to pull myself away from the deluge of excellent computer games that I brought upon myself. Doom 3, Day of the Tentacle (ScummVM!), Sam & Max Hit the Road (also ScummVM), and the free copy of Far Cry that came with my dad's GeForce 6800 have been holding me in their iron grip of sheer addictive fun. When my friend Ed reminded me that today was the one-month anniversary of my last update, I immediately leapt into action. Figuratively, anyway; I never left my chair.
The ironic thing about the bottom strip is that I wrote & pencilled it mere days within the actual release of Doom 3, and now the current-events-ish impact the strip could've had is highly lessened. I still like it, though.
You may also notice that my character now has black hair and a different T-shirt (it's hard to see, but that's the Doom 3 logo). I tend to change my character's appearance to match my general mood, and over the course of the summer I've become a tad lower, mood-wise. I'm not going all dark and unfunny, however. The main effect this has had on my comic strips is that there's a much larger element of satire in them. I think that's a good thing, and it makes the strips funnier if you're cynical. So, have a NICE day.
Just a Loser, Baby (7-24-2004)
I'm Beck! I mean, I'm back.
Enjoy the new strips. If all goes according to plan, the next story arc will be a therapy satire, poking fun at therapy, therapy in schools, etc.
Also, if you thought the "fava RAM" thing was funny, it's available on a T-shirt.
And Lo... A New Cast Member (6-22-2004)
As of today's strip, Shirley Hodgeton is another main character, bringing the total to 7. Check out the cast page for the new entry.
A Historic Event (6-18-2004)
Today marks the appearance of my first female main character. Shirley Hodgeton will be added to the cast page after a few more introductory strips. I would like to emphasize that Shirley is NOT based on a real person.
[Post Removed] (6-16-2004)
[NO POST FOR YOU!]
Nooooooooo-one Expects Multiple Comic Strips! (6-13-2004)
I have posted one comic strip today: The third one about the play, and the first one about bo-- I have posted TWO comic strips today: The third one about the play, the first one about bowling, and I didn't post any oth-- I haven't posted THREE comic strips today...
I'm So Ashamed... (6-9-2004)
The last strip I posted was so VERY unfunny, and I'd like to apologize for that. Here's a new one, and the previous one is gone from the site, unless you are masochistic in your reading habits and want to click here.
On another note, this most recent strip is the beginning of what I hope will be many multi-strip plotlines. I've already pencilled several more strips after this, and two new main characters are going to be added in the future. Keep checking back, and let me know by email (there's a link at the bottom of the page) if a strip isn't funny, or is especially funny. Heck, any kind of comment at all would be appreciated.
...And Another (6-2-2004)
Another strip for your reading pleasure.
I'm Back! (6-1-2004)
Yeah, I'm back. No more weekly strips, just a new one whenever it gets done. It could be more frequent, or it could be less frequent. New format, new coloring program, new continuity, and (of course) new strips. Enjoy. Email me if you would like an archive of the old strips and comics put up, because I'm not wasting the space if no-one's interested.
We premiere with two strips, so you have to click the "Next Strip" button to see the other one.
